We’ve been visiting Small Door for over 4 years. For the first three years, the experience was consistently excellent — attentive vets, caring technicians, and thoughtful follow-up. Unfortunately, the last two visits have been very different. On one occasion, a technician left our dog extremely anxious, which had never been an issue before. On the most recent visit, we faced a long round of questions and suggestions that felt frustrating since Small Door has been the only vet service we’ve ever used. For example, the vet suggested changing our dog’s food for allergies — but that very same food had been recommended by Small Door in the first place. The constant churn of vets and technicians seems to have affected the continuity and quality of care. For that reason, while I would give 5 stars for our first three years with Small Door, I can only give 1 star for the last year. - emre marcelli

Small Door Veterinary - Gramercy Introduce

In a city where convenience and quality of care are paramount, Small Door Veterinary - Gramercy stands out as a modern and dedicated resource for pet owners. Located at 380 2nd Ave, New York, NY 10010, this facility functions not only as a full-service animal hospital but also as a veterinary pharmacy, providing a seamless experience for those needing to fill prescriptions after an appointment. Small Door Veterinary aims to redefine the pet care experience by focusing on a membership model that prioritizes proactive and preventive care. This approach is designed to foster a long-term relationship between the clinic, the pet, and the owner, ensuring continuity of care and a deep understanding of each animal’s unique health history. Their philosophy is centered on providing a stress-free environment for pets and a transparent, easy-to-understand process for their owners. This includes a clean, calming space, often noted by clients for its welcoming atmosphere, which is a significant factor in reducing pet anxiety. As a comprehensive animal hospital, Small Door Veterinary is equipped to handle everything from routine wellness exams to urgent care needs, making it a reliable partner in your pet's health journey. The inclusion of an on-site pharmacy is a huge benefit, saving pet owners a separate trip and allowing them to begin their pet’s treatment immediately.

The experience at Small Door Veterinary can be a mix of the consistently positive and the occasionally frustrating, as seen in customer reviews. One satisfied client, on their first visit with their dog Harvey, found the staff, specifically Dr. Malik and nurse Katelyn, to be "super thorough, knowledgeable, & friendly... exactly what we needed!" This review highlights the clinic's ability to make a great first impression and provide the high-quality, professional care that New York pet owners expect. On the other hand, a long-term client noted a significant shift in the quality of care after years of excellent service. This customer's feedback points to issues with staff consistency and communication, leading to frustrating moments like a technician causing a dog anxiety or receiving conflicting advice on pet food. The review also mentions "constant churn of vets and technicians" as a potential reason for the decline in continuity of care. This is a critical point for any pet owner, as a stable relationship with a veterinarian is often the foundation of effective long-term care. While the positive feedback about specific staff members and the initial experience remains strong, the concerns raised about consistency and communication are important for potential clients to consider. These reviews collectively suggest that while the clinic has the potential to deliver exceptional care and a great initial experience, pet owners should be prepared to be proactive in communicating their pet's history to new staff members to ensure seamless service.
