The features and highlights of Van Aken Pet Hospital are defined by its core offerings and the experiences of its clients. The hospital is an on-site service provider, which means that treatments, diagnostics, and surgical procedures can all be performed within the same facility, providing convenience for pet owners. The clinic aims to deliver compassionate care, which is a key component of its mission. The staff at the front desk are noted by one client as being "nice," which is a positive first impression for many visitors. The clinic's commitment to accessibility is also a highlight, as the wheelchair-accessible parking and entrance make it a welcoming place for all members of the community. However, it is also important to consider the full range of client feedback to get a complete picture of the experience. Customer reviews highlight a stark contrast between the friendly front desk staff and the demeanor of the doctor. One review describes a "horrendous" and "demeaning" experience with the doctor, alleging that they were shamed and interrogated. This same client noted that after reading other reviews, this seemed to be a "common occurrence." Another review from a different client echoed these sentiments, pointing to what they perceived as an unprofessional and unhelpful experience, particularly when trying to get information for international travel. They were told the doctor's office doesn't respond to emails and were not provided the necessary information, which they felt was due to the clinic not wanting to "do their job." These conflicting accounts of the client experience are a crucial aspect of the clinic's highlights and are something that potential clients should be aware of when considering their options.

When selecting a veterinary care provider in Phoenix, the decision often comes down to a balance of services offered, convenience, and the overall experience. Van Aken Pet Hospital offers a set of core veterinary services that are essential for pet health, including dental care and surgical procedures like spaying and neutering. Its on-site services and accessible location on Indian School Road are a major point of convenience for local residents. However, what is most worth considering is the significant discrepancy in client experiences. While some clients may find the front desk staff to be friendly and professional, other, more detailed reviews present a very different picture of the overall practice. Multiple reviews describe a "horrendous" and "unprofessional" experience with the doctor, citing a shaming and demeaning attitude. One client felt "demeaned and degraded," while another felt that their requests were dismissed and that the clinic was unwilling to perform services they were supposedly certified for. The review that mentions the clinic not responding to emails and being told they don't do a "lengthy process" for international travel, despite being certified to do so, points to potential issues with communication and a lack of willingness to go the extra mile for clients. This is a stark contrast to the expected standard of "compassionate care" that the clinic promotes. For a pet owner in Arizona, choosing Van Aken Pet Hospital means weighing the practical convenience of its location and services against the serious concerns raised by multiple negative reviews regarding the professionalism and empathy of the veterinary staff. It is a decision that requires careful consideration, as the personal experience with the veterinary team is a critical component of a successful and trusting relationship.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Since they deleted my first review apparently I’ll leave another one. The front desk ladies are nice so I thought it would be a good experience but the doctor is horrendous. She walked into the room and immediately began interrogating me and shaming me, telling my the people I bought my puppy from were liars and he wasn’t vaccinated (mind you I have his full vaccination record and they’re reputable breeders) all because this was the first time she was seeing my puppy for his rabies shot and she didn’t believe he’d gotten his prior shots. I literally got home and bawled my eyes out. I have never been so demeaned and degraded in a 3 minute interaction before. My dog is fully vaccinated, registered, microchipped, groomed, the whole nine yards, so why she decided to target me I don’t know, but after reading other reviews it seems like this is a common occurrence. Please take your pets ANYWHERE else.
January 21 · Hannah BuntenSomeone finally did reach out by phone last Saturday. So, I received the info on the 3rd party stuff. I just will have to find a different Vet to go to who is willing to examine my pets and do their part with prepping them for an out of country experience.---After reading Rei and Crystal's review, I felt the need to write my own. When I came to this clinic to get my animals seen, one of the technicians spoke about neutering and when I expressed my feelings on how I don't believe in doing that to my pets, she brought up "cancer" as if refusing to castrate my cat is poor judgment on my part when it's not. I and others have a right to say no to the mind control that is dominant in the veterinary services industry. When I inquired about a special quote that involves flying my animals out of the country, the doctor or her husband never got back to me on that information. They also didn't answer my email I sent out because according to the receptionist, they don't respond to emails. Once I did call in and inquired about the quote they never got back to me on, I was told due to "staffing & prices" is why they won't be able to do the lengthy process it takes to go out of the country with an animal even though this clinic is supposedly certified to do such business. It really just sounded like they didn't want to do their job for whatever reason... but perhaps it's for the best that I don't return to this place considering that they can be unprofessional as Crystal pointed out in her review. Also, I was told the same day they would email me/call me back with some info about going through some 3rd parties and of course that never happened since their office is closed now. So yeah, it's pretty sad how a lot of vet hospitals are terrible in the Phoenix city of Arizona.
December 21 · S TravisMy experience at van aken has always been amazing! They are honest affordable and the best! We have been with doctor Johnson since I was a teenager and you will not find a better veterinarian anywhere! They have saved my pets saved their eye! Healed Parvo and taught me how to be a better parent to my animals! The staff are amazing and doctor Johnson always tries for the best outcome and nails it!!
June 20 · Carol winklerI took my 18 month old cat to have him fixed about 2 months ago. That was the last time I saw him alive. We were told he possibly had a heart attack and he wasn't taking sedation. Then they tried selling me $180 cremation. I would think if there were problems sedating then it's a no go, you shouldn't try to operate. I hope next time they just stop and call the owner explaining why they couldn't operate instead of calling to tell them the animal is no longer alive. R.I.P. Sherbet. I miss you buddy!
