For pet owners in North Carolina, choosing where to shop for pet supplies and services often comes down to convenience, variety, and reliability. Petco in Charlotte is a strong contender for a number of reasons. Its comprehensive range of products, catering to everything from dogs and cats to tropical fish and reptiles, means that pet owners can find virtually everything they need under one roof. The availability of on-site services, such as professional grooming, adds another layer of convenience, allowing customers to address multiple pet care needs in a single visit. The store's commitment to accessibility, as evidenced by its wheelchair-friendly features, ensures that it is a welcoming place for all members of the community. However, it is important for customers, especially those with specialized pets like Koi fish, to be aware of the practices of large-scale retailers. One customer's detailed review highlights a critical concern about the lack of quarantine procedures for fish, which can pose a significant risk to existing aquatic ecosystems. This feedback serves as an important reminder for customers to conduct their own due diligence, such as quarantining new fish, to protect their valuable collections. Despite this cautionary note, the positive feedback about specific staff members, such as the groomer Sara, shows that the store does have dedicated and skilled professionals who provide excellent, compassionate care. The combination of a vast product selection, convenient service options, and the potential for a great customer experience with the right employee makes Petco a worthwhile choice for many in the Charlotte community, provided they are informed about best practices for their specific pets.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1BEWARE Koi Fish BuyersThursday, June 5, I purchased 4 small Koi at PETCO store 1526 and introduced them to my Koi Pond of 25 years. June 13th 2 Koi died, June 14th 2 Koi died. All fish have been infected by introducing fish harboring foreign bacteria and diseases. Because of the weekend, I contacted several Koi Clubs sending photos and one member visited and told me to treat with Aqua Meds FlukeGuard and Aqua Meds TERMINATOR which are available on line only. The current loss of 4 Koi is thousands of dollars and the remainder are infected.I went by Petco Arboretum and spoke with the Manager who indicated Petco does not quarantine fish nor do their suppliers.PETCO SHOULD POST SIGNAGE ON THEIR FISH FOR SALE THAT THEIR FISH HAVE NOT BEEN QUARANTINED AND COULD INTRODUCE FOREIGH BACTERIA DISEASES TO PONDS AND TANKS HAVING OTHER HEALTY FISH.I would have bought a tank to quarantine the new fish before introducing them into two healthy Koi Ponds having 16,000 gallons of water.I told Petco Manager and Front Register personnel and they admitted fish are not quarantined and were not sympathetic at all. So I am posting to help other customers from making the same deadly mistake. Koi Clubs advised me to ONLY PURCHASE FISH FROM COMPANIES WHO QUARANTINE KOI FISH LONG BEFORE SELLING THEM TO PREVENT THE SPREAD OF DEADLY DISEASES.Koi Club Executives advise me of the Deadly Flesh Eating Bacteria, "streptococcal toxic shock syndrome" originating in Japan has been exported in diseased Koi fish throughout the world.Seems like PETCO should attempt to advise its customers to take actions to quarantine fish. I have not introduced fish to my pond since 2000, so was caught off guard. Flukes have been identified as well as bacterial gill disease by a Koi Club Executive who visited my pond for testing and provided initial treatment with others to follow when I can order and receive additional spectrum of medications to address the broad infections.DON'T MAKE THE SAME MISTAKE BUYING FROM A STORE THAT DOES NOT SELL PREVIOUSLY QUARANTINED FISH.THE LEAST PETCO SHOULD DO IS ADVISE ITS CUSTOMERS OF THE RISKS OF NOT DOING WHAT A RESPONSIBLE VENDOR SHOULD BE DOING THEMSELVES. QUARANTINE FISH.PETCO DEMOSTRATED IRRESPONSIBLE AND RECKLESS MARKETING OF KOI FISH TO UNSUSPECTING PUBLIC.VACCINATIONS ARE GIVEN TO DOGS AND CATS. MORE CARE SHOULD BE GIVEN TO THE SALE AND DISTRIBUTION OF FISH TO PROTECT HEALTY FISH FROM BEING INFECTED WITH FOREIGN DISEASES AND DIE.KOI FISH ARE VALUED IN THE THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS EACH AND THE LOSS IS SUBSTANTIAL WHEN A COLLECTION IS INFECTED.Petco Four Koi below
June 16 · Larry StarnesI met Sara in grooming and it was immediate good vibes - she's incredibly welcoming and positive! But it was my dog's reaction to Sara that won my heart. Sara cares, very obviously loves animals, and has that special touch! She did a great job grooming my angel, who rarely trusts anyone to grind her nails. Sara's an overall wonderful and lovely person, and I've already booked my next appointment with her!
August 30 · JodiI called the groomer department yesterday an left a message for someone to call me regarding getting my dog groomed. No one yesterday or today has returned my call. So I called today an no one answers the phone. It was my first time trying to get a grooming appointment with Petco.I had taken my dog to Petco for training an was very impressed with Emily. So I was interested in trying the grooming.Disappointed Customer
August 26 · Linda KilgoWas an amazing experience! My son really wants a snake... but, don't want it to eat my babies!! HELP! I know it would escape 👀
August 20 · Lila Rachelle⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️I went to Petco looking for parakeets, and I couldn’t be happier with the service I received. The staff was super helpful, knowledgeable, and patient with all my questions. They made sure I had everything I needed for my new birds, from the right food to the proper cage setup. You can tell they genuinely care about the animals and the customers. My parakeets are happy, healthy, and settling in great. Definitely recommend this Petco for anyone looking for new pets or pet supplies!
