Reptile Room Introduce
For reptile and amphibian enthusiasts in California, finding a truly specialized pet store can be a challenge. While many general pet stores carry a small selection of reptiles, few offer the dedicated expertise, wide variety of species, and specialized supplies that a niche shop provides. In the heart of Hayward, a small business known as Reptile Room has served this unique community for years. This store is a go-to destination for those passionate about scaly and cold-blooded companions, offering a tailored experience that caters specifically to the needs of reptiles, amphibians, and their owners.
Reptile Room has a history that reflects the challenges and evolution of a small, independent pet store in a competitive market. Having been in business since 1996, the store has seen its share of changes. Recent customer feedback, however, suggests a significant positive shift. While some older reviews raised concerns about animal welfare, a more recent update indicates a noticeable improvement. The store's layout has been overhauled, enclosures appear cleaner, and animals are more active. This change points to a business that is actively listening to customer feedback and is dedicated to improving its standards of care.
The store's strength lies in its specialized knowledge. The staff, including a highly praised team member who is "super nice" and "very knowledgeable," understands the intricacies of reptile keeping in a way that general pet store employees may not. This expertise is a huge benefit to both seasoned hobbyists and new reptile owners looking for accurate and helpful advice. Their deep knowledge of the hobby in California and their ability to help customers with specific needs is a key reason for their local reputation.
Reptile Room is conveniently located at 1223 A St, Hayward, CA 94541, USA. Situated in a central part of Hayward, the store is easily accessible for residents of the East Bay and beyond. Its location on A Street, a main thoroughfare, makes it a practical destination for a quick visit to pick up supplies or a leisurely browse.
The store is designed to be accessible to a wide range of customers. It features a wheelchair-accessible entrance and a wheelchair-accessible parking lot, ensuring that people with mobility challenges can visit comfortably. The store also caters to modern payment preferences, accepting credit cards, debit cards, and NFC mobile payments, which makes for a quick and easy transaction process. The store is well-suited for a "quick visit," whether you're just grabbing feeder insects or need a quick consultation with a staff member.
Reptile Room provides a range of specialized services centered on the reptile hobby. While their primary service is on-site retail, their expertise is an invaluable resource for the community.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Please don't support this place. It's infamous for a reason (despite the shockingly high rating on Google).I really wanted to like this place; the drive from my house isn't long, and the architecture looks great, but I just can't after seeing what I saw.Animals are seriously neglected, seemingly for weeks or even months at a time (water bowls don't get that moldy in just a week.) They were either lethargic or desperately trying to escape.Adults are inappropriately kept together. Enclosures are tiny with no enrichment, and sometimes no hides.Avoid this place. Most others recommended East Bay Vivarium, though I haven't been there myself.UPDATE: I revisited the place a bit ago to see if things have changed, and...they seemed better?? The layout got an overhaul, the animals are active, and the enclosures seem clean. The leopard geckos are still in dire straits, though.
July 31 · Erlinda LongchampThe staff was super nice. We were obviously not going to buy anything (we came from the restaurant next door and were interested in what this store was). He was super nice to us and asked us how the food was there. I was also eavesdropping when he was helping other customers. He seems very knowledgeable and someone who knows a lot of reptiles and the hobby in California.
April 15 · Tina LuongSad sad place and sad little man that runs this place I can't fathom that they have been open for 24 years it's absolutely disgusting! I came here for a feeder mouse and was hit with this horrid smell as soon as you walked in the door. The smell was so bad it made me want to check the enclosures and man I was heart broken it's sad they had 15 bearded dragons in a 2 by 2 square, 2 bearded dragons are dead In the cage, their housing multiple ball pythons in the same enclosure. As I kept going around they have dirty enclosures and countless animals with ought water bowls. Their housing two adult red tail boas in the same 55 gallon tank with barely any water in the bowl. Each Leopard gecko and baby Ball python is housed in tiny plastic containers with no water or hides with improper setups for all. Their is an enclosure with at least 20 tortoises stuffed like quarters in their! No water no food and in really bad shape ! This place is basically reptile hell I will not be retuning and will be filing a report the abuse in here is awful and the owner is a disgusting person!
June 03 · Hamza HallaqThis is an absolute gem in this town. I was absolutely surprised that such a specialized store exists in town and in such a nice location. The building is incredible, all made of glass. Inside you get a lot of supplies, reptile food and a vast selection of reptiles, snakes, dragons, chameleons, and arachnid. The staff is the most kind and knowledgeable. Incredible place.
January 02 · Alessio SangalliMy son has been waiting and prepping for a pet snake for a few months. We went to Petco to get the cage but the staff had no clue and no help, nice but looked at us crazy for wanting info. Reptile Room is Soo much more helpful than a bigger dept. I don't even like snakes that much, but almost brought home a rescue snake too! Thank you!Our sweet Eve could not travel with us, they have taken very good care of her!!!
