The Serpentarium Introduce
For reptile enthusiasts and those interested in exotic pets in the Sacramento, California area, The Serpentarium is a well-known and highly specialized destination. This unique store, located in Elk Grove, sets itself apart from conventional pet stores by focusing exclusively on reptiles and amphibians. As a premier destination for reptile lovers, The Serpentarium offers an extensive selection of snakes, lizards, tortoises, and more, as well as a comprehensive range of supplies needed to care for these unique animals. Unlike a general pet store, the entire business is dedicated to the world of herpetology, allowing for a depth of knowledge and a curated inventory that is difficult to find elsewhere. The staff's expertise is a major draw, providing valuable insights into the care and husbandry of various reptiles. The store's mission is to be a reliable resource for both seasoned keepers and those just starting their journey, ensuring that every pet is matched with a responsible owner who understands its needs. This commitment to animal welfare and customer education is a cornerstone of their business, aiming to create a supportive and enriching experience for the local reptile community.
The Serpentarium's reputation is built on its knowledgeable staff and a wide selection of captive-bred animals. The staff's willingness to share their expertise is frequently praised by customers. One review highlights the positive experience of a young boy who was treated with kindness and given expert guidance when he got his first green anole. This personal, supportive approach makes a significant difference, fostering a positive relationship between the store and its clients. However, as with any business, customer experiences can vary. Another review detailed a deeply concerning situation involving a bearded dragon purchased from the store, which was allegedly sick and required immediate veterinary care. The customer raised serious issues about the animal's condition, the cleanliness of its enclosure, and the professionalism of the store's response. While this appears to be a rare and specific incident, it underscores the importance of thorough inspection and a cautious approach when purchasing a live animal. The store’s website claims a commitment to only selling healthy, captive-bred animals and that they support local, responsible breeders, which suggests that the negative review may not be representative of their overall practices. The store's professional services, such as health checks and expert advice on a variety of reptile topics, further demonstrate their intent to be a trusted authority in the field.

For California residents in the Sacramento area, choosing The Serpentarium is a compelling option due to its specialized expertise and comprehensive range of products and services for reptiles. ★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1BEST IN SACRAMENTO AREA. They have a good selection or can order what you need. Best of all the customer service is top notch. They were so nice to my 9 year old son when he got his green anole.
August 15 · 916medicMy spouse and I went to this location to get something else. Saw a beardie that they were saying was a leatherback, totally isn’t, just a normal beardie. They said she’s a surrender, and they kept her in a 20 gallon, she’s also a full adult, with incredibly dirty water bowl and food bowl. We got the beardie home and the breathing and gulping that we were seeing, got concerning. We took her to an emergency vet, we found out that she has a respiratory infection, swallowed two stones and they’re stuck in her, and has a lot of impacted eggs. They didn’t mention that she was sick or anything, just that she’s overweight, which turns out it’s just the impacted eggs. Incredibly frustrating to see a store specializing in reptiles treat their reptiles like this. Now I’m being accused of a fake review? Really?
June 22 · WhateverWe’ve been regularly coming here for well over a year since we got our leopard gecko. Customer service has always been excellent. Staff are always knowledgeable and friendly and help out with so much advice. The one thing I’ve always hated here though is the bad smell as soon as you open the door. I always would just mentally prepare myself for the smell and the place just not looking too clean. That was until tonight! We walked in tonight to a CLEAN store and no smell. It was amazing! I told the staff how impressed I was with the cleanliness of the store and the gross odor being gone. He said they’ve been working hard sweeping and moping more regularly. I really appreciated this so much and I hope they keep it up because it did make us feel so much more comfortable going there. As always, customer service was amazing.
February 26 · Cheryl GeliberteIf you keep reptiles or amphibians (or you are thinking of keeping them), then this is the place to go. We recently found a lizard hiding in our car for who knows how long and my daughter wanted to keep it as a pet. We went into the Sepentarium and they helped us get set up. The staff seem very knowledgeable and genuinely care about the animals. They dont seem to try to upsell you on stuff you don't need. And they even remembered us when we came in several days later to get more crickets and asked how "Wolfred (the lizard)" was settling into his new home.
January 26 · Fish HeadI visit The Serpentarium from out of state because they're the closest genuine reptile store to me. It's a great place to get supplies and feeders, and they had a fantastic selection of woods. The animals appear well cared for (the most important thing!) and the staff is knowledgeable and happy to help. :)
