East Meadow Animal Hospital: Kaplan Warren DVM Reviews
Staff is great. I rescued a husky and he was a little troublesome because of the way he used to be treated, all the staff is super friendly and very patient. I also left my husky for boarding. He seems really happy there cause the staff in charge of him played with him a lot. This the all in one place of veterinaries.

August 26 · Michele PaxsonHello. I am hoping to give some helpful advice. I used East Meadow Animal Hospital for my dog and my 3 cats. Dr. Thonsen performed a surgical dental cleaning on my dog- the surgery went beautifully- she needed 4 teeth removed but he was able to salvage the rest of them. She is like a brand new pup now! She is lively and much more comfortable/happy.Then, I brought one of my cats because I thought he was constipated and I wasn't sure if it was an emergency. The staff was super helpful and squeezed me in to the schedule. Dr. Thonsen told me that my cat was not constipated- instead, he had a urinary tract infection, and an obstruction in his bladder. This is a very serious situation. Dr. Thonsen was straightforward and honest about the possible consequences of this condition. My cat had to be kept over night. I was to expect a call the following morning (a Sunday) to be updated on my cat's condition. Since it was a Sunday, I was told that Dr. Thonsen would not be there but Dr. Gross would be- but he would only be there for only half the day.My call from Dr. Gross was rushed and extremely harsh. My cat's prognosis had not improved and he did not sound optimistic about my cat's health. He basically gave me no hope. I was told that I could not come in to see my cat bc there was no staff in the office to assist. I decided to disregard that and after I got off the phone, I rushed to the animal hospital. When I got there (maybe 8 minutes after I got off the phone), there was no cars in the parking lot. The doors were locked and the lights were off. I called, spoke to the answering service staff and begged to speak to Dr. Gross. Dr. Gross finally called me back and he told me that he does not spend the entire day at the office- he goes in and out of the office until the early afternoon- and after that there would be no one in the office to monitor my cat. So basically, after givng me a terrible prognosis for my cat- he left my cat alone, with an IV in (which typically should be monitored) and a catheter (which has potential to get kinked- which would cause my cat to die under the circumstances). I begged him to come back to the office so I could take him to a 24 hour monitoring emergency clinic. He came back after 20 minutes, and let us take my cat. He actually was helpful at this point and gave us some lab results which had just come back and he wrote up a referral for the emergency clinic- so they could read what had been performed already. So, I guess I don't want to scare anyone from bringing their pet to east meadow animal hospital for a routine visit or for dental care (bc they did a great job). But, if your pet will be left over night, even for boarding, especially if it will be on a Sunday, I would advise taking your pet someone else.My cat is currently at the Emergency Clinic in Westbury on Cantigue Rock Rd. His temperature was 93 degrees when he got there...and he needed warming blankets to keep his temperature stable. If I had not taken my cat here, he most likely would have died. The doctor here was much less harsh and a lot more optimistic about my cat's prognosis. I believe a great doctor has great bedside manners. Its incredibly important especially in life or death situations. And I believe that Dr. Gross at East Meadow Animal Hospital is lacking in this department. Additionally, I believe it was unethical and could have potentially been negligent to leave my cat, in a dire situation, alone, in the office. If it is their office's policy to leave the animal unattended on Sundays, then, at the very least, Dr. Gross should have told me to take my cat elsewhere.I hope I helped someone with this story. Thanks for your time.
