What is worth choosing
For residents of California, particularly those in the Mission Viejo area, the Petco at 25592 El Paseo is a compelling choice for several reasons. The primary benefit is its sheer convenience and breadth of offerings. Instead of visiting a separate store for fish, a different one for pet supplies, and a third for grooming, you can get everything done in one place. This saves time and effort, a valuable commodity in the fast-paced Southern California lifestyle. The store's ability to act as a "Pet Shop," "Fish store," "Reptile store," and "Pet supply store" all at once is a major advantage.
While the provided reviews show a mixed bag of customer service experiences, they also highlight a crucial point: the store has been a beloved local institution for a long time. The positive comments from a customer who has been visiting for "over 20 years" speak to a foundational level of quality and a welcoming atmosphere that has endured. The friendly and knowledgeable staff mentioned in other reviews are what make a local business feel like a community hub. The negative review, while serious, points to a specific incident and an individual employee, not necessarily a systemic issue with the entire store's operation.
Furthermore, the store's robust service options, including delivery and curbside pickup, make it highly adaptable to a customer's needs. The excellent accessibility features, such as the wheelchair-accessible amenities, ensure that the store is a practical option for a wide range of customers. In summary, Petco in Mission Viejo is worth choosing because it provides a comprehensive, convenient, and accessible experience for pet owners, backed by a long history of serving the local community. It is a reliable destination where you can not only get the products you need but also access important services that contribute to the overall well-being of your pet.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1I have never been treated so poorly and with such disregard! I went to the Petco located at 25592 El Paseo, Mission Viejo to buy a few things for my cats. I am a frequent/longtime customer and have never had an issue. Until today!! Diana, at checkout, is the WORST!I needed to buy a new XL cat box and some cat food. Because I didn't know which one of Petco's XL cat box would work best for the space I had planned to put it in, I picked 2 with the intent of returning the one that didn't work. I had a small hand-held basket full of cat food and 2 XL cat boxes and needed to check out. For obvious reasons, I couldn't carry everything. I brought 1 of the cat boxes and the basket full of cat food up the the register counter next to the one that Diana was sitting at because it was next to the cat product aisles. She didn't see me because she was sitting and playing games on her phone. I politely asked her if she could help me and grab the cat box and basket for me and put them on her check-out counter for me while I went back and grabbed the other cat box I was purchasing. My hands/arms were completely full and it was obvious I couldn't carry everything. She looked at me like I was bothering her and said "oh you can leave those things there and grab them when you come back." Wow - thanks for all your help. NOT!!!I went back and grabbed the other cat box, brought it up to her checkout counter and then went over and grabbed the other stuff I was buying. The items were sitting right next to her on the other check-out register counter. Was it that much of an inconvenience to help me and put them at her register? For the record, there wasn't anyone else even remotely near the checkout area so it's not like she was assisting other customers!! She was just on her phone playing games. When I got everything to her register, I had to prompt her for my Petco Rewards number in order to get points for my purchase. She made no effort to be friendly or ask me if I found everything I needed. Complete LACK of any/all customer service skills. She is a terrible representative of Petco!I will NOT be returning to this store!
August 17 · Lenore GoldenIve been going to here for over 20 years and can’t say enough good things about this location. The staff are friendly, very knowledgeable but most importantly want to help and talk pets. My daughter absolutely loves going and asks to go there more than the trampoline park. Really wholesome place ❤️
February 07 · Colin BuckleyDiana is a phenomenal trainer at Petco. From the very first session, Diana’s patience and deep understanding of canine behavior stood out. Duke came in as a high-energy, strong-willed puppy, and through Diana’s guidance, he has grown into a well-mannered, confident, and happy dog. Her training sessions were always positive and tailored to Duke’s unique personality or our specific issues. She celebrated every small win with us and helped us navigate the tougher moments(like nail trims) with compassion and clarity. Thank you, Diana, for being such a pivotal part of Duke’s first year. You’ve helped us learn how to be better doberman parents and we are forever grateful.- Duke’s Family 🐾
May 20 · Rachel Pollard1. The cost of the product was 20-30% higher than what would be reasonable.2. I do not believe Covid or Tariffs have anything to do with this cost.3. Cashier was too occupied with personal conversation with others. Not sure if they were friends or staff. No Name badge with logo.4. insufficient amount of change in cash register to be able to give change back for my cash purchase.5. I was forced to use a card for a purchase that i could have used cash. This costs me more per transaction.6. most likely i will have to find other options such as Mom & Pop shops who are slowly being destroyed by large chains.7. I have become a proponent of supporting our local small businesses over large corps and chains. Clearly once the competition is eliminated, there is no incentive to offer good service or low prices. Very sad form of business.
April 28 · Mehran GeramiPretty nice employees in this store but never have my cat food when Im there even though it shows on the computer that its there ..
