It's a dedicated breeder and supplier specializing in tortoises and turtles, focusing on providing healthy, well-started, and well-socialized animals. As one customer lovingly wrote, their baby tortoise was "obviously used to human contact," a testament to the care and attention each animal receives.
Tortoise Town is conveniently located at 2511 Fire Road, Suite A7, Egg Harbor Township, NJ 08234. This central location makes it an easy trip for residents throughout Atlantic County and the surrounding areas. The store is designed to be accessible for everyone, featuring both a wheelchair-accessible entrance and a wheelchair-accessible parking lot. This commitment to accessibility ensures that all community members can easily visit and explore the world of these fascinating reptiles. With convenient payment options including credit cards and debit cards, your visit will be as seamless as possible.
Tortoise Town's services are highly specialized, focusing on the specific needs of its unique clientele. Their approach is centered on ethical breeding practices, expert care, and ongoing customer support, which sets them apart from more general pet stores.
- Sale of Captive-Bred Tortoises and Turtles: The primary service is providing healthy, captive-bred animals. As a small business and dedicated breeder, they offer a wide selection of species, ensuring that all animals are "well-started" and accustomed to human interaction. This is a crucial difference from wild-caught animals, which can be stressed and unhealthy. Their customers, who purchase everything from baby Eastern Hermann's tortoises to others, attest to the thriving and cooperative nature of their new pets.
- Onsite Services and Expert Guidance: The business offers "onsite services," which speaks to their hands-on approach. In addition to being a storefront, they are a resource. They can provide guidance on everything from habitat setup to daily care. Customer reviews highlight that the staff is "fairly quick to respond" to questions, providing the vital post-purchase support that is essential for first-time or new tortoise owners. They are a valuable resource for information on proper habitat, diet, and overall wellness.
- Shipping and Proper Packaging: While the in-store experience is key, Tortoise Town also expertly handles shipping for customers who can't visit in person. Reviews mention that animals are "promptly" shipped in "packaging appropriate for the weather conditions," showcasing their commitment to the welfare of their animals even during transit. This service makes their high-quality, captive-bred animals accessible to a wider audience while ensuring the safety of the pet.
What makes Tortoise Town the go-to destination for reptile lovers in New Jersey? It's their unwavering commitment to quality, knowledge, and ethical practices.
- Specialization and Expertise: Unlike general pet stores, Tortoise Town specializes exclusively in tortoises and turtles. This specialization means they have deep, focused expertise on these animals. Their knowledge extends to species-specific care, proper diets, and ideal habitats, making them an unparalleled resource for both beginners and experienced keepers.
- Well-Started and Socialized Animals: A key highlight, as noted by customer reviews, is the high level of socialization of their baby tortoises. The fact that a newly purchased pet is not scared of humans and is cooperative with daily routines like baths indicates that the animals are raised in a healthy, hands-on environment, setting them up for a successful transition to a new home.
- Commitment to Captive Breeding: Tortoise Town prides itself on selling only captive-bred animals. This is an extremely important and ethical practice that prevents the depletion of wild populations and ensures the animals are free from the stress and health issues often associated with wild-caught reptiles. For conscientious pet owners, this is a major selling point.
- Dedicated Post-Purchase Support: The relationship with Tortoise Town doesn't end at the point of sale. Their willingness to provide ongoing support and quickly answer customer questions is a significant feature. This "lifetime customer support" gives new pet owners the confidence they need to properly care for their new tortoise, fostering a sense of trust and reliability.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1I purchased a well-started baby Eastern Hermann’s tortoise from Tortoise Town. I’ve had my baby for a little over 2 weeks and he seems to be thriving. He’s obviously used to human contact; he has never seemed scared of us. He’s a good eater and fairly cooperative with his daily baths. I’m absolutely in love.
June 23 · Valarie P FranklinOrdered my first ever tortoise, a well started baby. Arrived promptly in packaging appropriate for the weather conditions. Wartortle, as they’ve come to be named, was understandably shy from the journey and change of scenery. But even before their first night with us was over they were starting to come out of their shell (pun intended) and was cruising around their new habitat. When I had a question about my new tortoise they were fairly quick to respond.
June 14 · The Lone Operator “Rex”Great experience purchasing a Sulcata hatchling from Tortoise town! He shipped within their stated time frame, he came healthy, and he is thriving! Thank you!
June 25 · Kristen LeetPlease read this before purchasing from the website and their other website CB Reptiles. They’re the same company. We learned this because at first we were looking for box turtles. Tortoise town didn’t have any and I got on the waitlist for box turtles. We ordered from CB reptiles instead and ordered a different turtle breed. Once the order went through, they keep giving us the run around so once tortoise town notified me that box turtles were available, we purchased two of them since that’s what we originally wanted anyways. Then boom, we got a text notification that the order has been placed but it was under the same number from cb reptiles. So I sent them a picture of the messages asking them if they were the same company and they said yes! Okay. We want a refund! That’s a whole different issue and then boom, from tortoise town website, we finally got an email with a tracking number after two weeks. We ordered two from them and one showed up to the house. I’m so freaking pissed because now they’re MIA. They’re refusing to answer. In total, we paid for 3 turtles and we only got one. Where are the other two turtles?
August 27 · Wendy JosephWe bought “Hank” our baby Sulcata from Tortoise town. I originally ordered a female, and we changed our mind. I emailed tortoise town and they responded back within a couple hours to let me know that wasn’t a problem at all, they would switch my order to a male. They informed me it has been very hot in Florida and they were holding off to ship him until the weather was more safe for travels. Within a couple days they emailed me he was sent. We received a happy healthy baby Sulcata. I have nothing but great things to say about tortoise town. 🐢 thank you again!
