East Side Animal Hospital Introduce
East Side Animal Hospital is a well-known veterinary practice in the heart of New York City, providing an extensive range of services to meet the diverse needs of pet owners. More than just a simple vet's office, this location functions as an all-encompassing animal hospital, dog daycare center, kennel, and pet boarding service. Its position in the city allows it to serve a dense population of pet owners, offering everything from routine wellness visits to emergency and critical care. The hospital's mission is to provide comprehensive care that supports a pet's health at every stage of life. From a puppy's first vaccinations to a senior pet's specialized needs, East Side Animal Hospital aims to be a one-stop-shop for all things veterinary. The presence of a wide variety of services under a single roof offers a significant convenience for New Yorkers who lead busy lives and need a reliable, accessible solution for their pet's health and wellness.
The practice has built a reputation on its ability to handle a broad spectrum of cases, and the public feedback reflects a diversity of experiences. A glowing review highlights the staff's extraordinary kindness and generosity, particularly in a non-traditional situation with a foster dog. The staff's willingness to go "above and beyond" and their genuine sympathy, especially from Dr. Manning, Christine, and Tony, made a lasting impression. This level of personalized care and community involvement can be a major factor for many pet owners in a large city. On the other hand, a disappointed customer shared a highly negative experience with a specific doctor, Dr. Freda, who they felt was rushed and lacked compassion. This review also points to a significant issue with a lack of financial transparency, with a surprisingly high bill and uncommunicated test costs. This highlights the importance of asking for a clear breakdown of costs and services before procedures are performed. These contrasting experiences suggest that while the hospital as a whole may have a strong positive reputation, the individual interactions with specific staff members and clarity on pricing can vary.

When considering East Side Animal Hospital in New York, pet owners should weigh the clinic's comprehensive offerings against the varying customer experiences. On one hand, the clinic is an exceptional resource, providing a full spectrum of services from routine wellness to 24-hour emergency care, making it a reliable hub for all of a pet’s needs. The staff's demonstrated ability to show immense compassion and go above and beyond, as seen in the case of the foster dog, speaks volumes about the quality of care that can be received. The clinic's inclusive environment, with its LGBTQ+ friendly policies, also makes it a welcoming place for everyone. However, the negative review concerning a lack of communication from a specific doctor, a rushed appointment, and a high, un-transparent bill is a serious concern that prospective clients should be aware of. This feedback emphasizes the importance of direct communication with staff, particularly about costs and procedures, before any services are rendered. Ultimately, East Side Animal Hospital offers the kind of extensive, one-stop-shop care that is highly valuable in a city like New York, but like any large practice with multiple doctors, the personal experience may vary. The facility's ability to handle emergencies, exotic pets, and even pet travel logistics makes it a strong contender for anyone seeking a comprehensive veterinary partner, but a proactive approach to communication is advised.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1I walked into the 52nd st office during the middle of the day without an appointment this week with a brand new foster for a checkup and he was taken and seen immediately. Dr. Manning and his staff literally restored my faith in humanity with how sympathetic and generous they were to us. They went above and beyond for me and even spread the word about my foster for potential adopters. Two people recognized him on the street the next day saying that they heard about him through their office. I cannot recommend them enough, I would travel from anywhere in the city just to receive care from them. Special shoutout to Dr. Manning, Christine, and Tony. I will never forget you and your kindness.
March 22 · Haley GrossI was very disappointed with the service my boyfriend and I received at Eastside Animal Hospital. We worked with Dr. Freda, and it felt as though she was rushing through the appointment and didn’t want to be there at all. As a former dog owner, I know what it’s like to have a vet who is genuinely invested in my pet’s health and happiness and I’m disappointed to say I didn’t experience that here at all. This was our 4-month kitten’s first vet visit, and as a first-time cat owner, we had several important questions. Unfortunately, before my boyfriend had the chance to ask any of them, Dr. Freda left the room and never returned. She spent a maximum of ten minutes with him and our kitten and never asked about his behavior, eating or sleeping habits, play activity, or emotional well-being. His questions, like “How much should I feed him?” and “Is he a healthy weight for his age?” were basic but important, yet went unanswered due to the lack of direct communication. Dr. Freda seemed determined to spend as little time as possible with us. She handled my kitten like an object, without a smile or even acknowledging him as she examined him.To make matters worse, we were shocked to receive a $650 bill at the end of the visit. No one had communicated the cost of any tests or procedures beforehand. In fact, we weren’t even aware that two of the three tests listed had been performed. This lack of transparency made me feel like the clinic had intentionally kept us in the dark while inflating the bill. My boyfriend had already informed the vet assistant that my kitten had been treated for ear mites and had recently tested negative at a 24-hour clinic. Yet we were still charged $60 for another ear mite test we didn’t consent to.Our kitten had previously been diagnosed with ringworm, which we had already been treating. The vet said they would test him again since there was another outbreak on his ear, but never mentioned that they would run two separate tests totaling $350. I expected that costs of that magnitude would be discussed beforehand—it seems like basic courtesy, but apparently that’s not the standard here. It has been three weeks since the tests were taken. The first test came back negative after a few days and I haven’t heard anything about the second test’s results.Overall, we left feeling upset and dissatisfied. The clinic came across as shamelessly profit-driven, and Dr. Freda gave me the impression that she had little care or concern for either us or our pet. What should have been a straightforward and supportive first vet visit turned into an unnecessarily stressful and disappointing experience.
August 07 · Lauren ChoHit and miss, ultimately not worth the risk.Definitely do not recommend bringing your pet here. Luna came back from a dental cleaning damp, coughing, smelling like vomit. The next day Dr Freda had no explanation, assured me that it wasn’t from the breathing tube because the tech would’ve told her if Luna vomited. Other times there were no issues, but for me, personally, I don’t trust them anymore.
April 24 · Salvatore PaszynskyVery caring vet staff! They went above and beyond, and really care about animals and are also compassionate to pet owners. Highly recommend!
March 23 · Maggie RoseThis veterinary clinic is so great! All of the staff here, from the receptionists to the vet techs, and vets are so kind and helpful. They remember both you and your fur babies by name, call to check in after sick appointments, sit down with you to explain a full cost breakdown, and will make sure you’re well taken care of even when they’re closed. I can’t recommend enough. Huge thank you to Tiffany, Dr. Manning, Dr. Gitter-Fox, Dr. Freda, and all of the lovely vet techs for taking such great care of Mercury!
