On 8/5/25 I took my three cats to Vetco Vaccination clinic in NYC for their shots. I was advised by VETCO staff to get the Indoor Protect package for $125, which includes the Rabies vaccine, FVRCP 3-in-1 vaccine and Dewormer. I agreed and paid. One of my cats also needed to be microchipped so we added that as well.While they were trying to put in the microchip, the vet did not get the chip inside my cat on first try as he claimed the microchip was “stuck” on the needle so my poor boy had to be poked multiple times due to an incompetent vet.After all the vaccines were given, they told us they were done but I noticed that my cats were not given dewormers so I inquired. VETCO staff refused to give my cat dewormers and when I asked why, they only responded saying that my cats did not need them. When I told them that the indoor protect package included deworming, they said that deworming was free and what I was not charged for it.After getting home, I looked up the VETCO vaccination price list for nyc and noticed that we were scammed and overcharged by VETCO. The price a la carte for Rabies vaccine is $37 and FVRCP 3-in-1 vaccine is $50, which totals to $87 given that we did not receive the dewormers. According to their price list, it costs $33 for Roundworm/Hookworm Dewormer and $48 for Tapeworm Dewormer (so much for dewormers being “free”).VETCO staff deliberately scammed and cheated me out of the service I paid for. Why would they tell me to buy the $125 indoor protect package and refuse to deworm my 3 cats when the two vaccines only cost $87 a la carte without the dewormer? That is an overcharge of $38 extra per cat, and $114 for three cats for services that they refused to provide. After calling customer service and going back to the Petco store for a price adjustment, nobody at petco seems to want to help or admit they are at fault. Customer service tells me they will call me back, but never do. I am sick of wasting hours in the phone with no resolutions.

As for the Vetco, the guy that took my attendance was rude from the moment I stepped up, but after I voiced my disapproval in a respectful way, he did change his tone. Now the vet herself was dismissive, she was there to administer the shot and keep it moving. That was the impression she gave me, I tried to ask her a question that would fall outside of the purpose for our visit - which I understood - but the manner she answered me was as I said before, very dismissive. She was short and not willing to give us another second of her time. I was thoroughly unimpressed and have spread the word for all the pet moms I know. Keep away, don’t bother. You’re better off going to the Bronx.

June 15 · Joshua AbramsAfter picking up my new, 8-week old Yorkie puppy, I brought him to a local vet who told me he could receive his second set of vaccines at 10 weeks (instead of 12) since he received his first set at 6.5 weeks.I made an appointment with Vetco UWS due to the affordability of their vaccine packages. The confirmation said I should receive an intake form 2 days prior to the visit; multiple confirmations were sent but no intake form. I called and was told to just bring him in.When I brought him to Vetco, with all of his paperwork including previous vaccinations and report from a local vet, I was told that he was too small to vaccinate there since they don’t have proper facilities if he has a reaction. This is completely understandable, however, we not only spent 2 hours traveling to/from this location via the subway with our 10-week old puppy, but also they weighed him inaccurately at 2 lbs when he is 2.8 lbs (a significant difference for a Yorkie). The vet also told me I could either bring him to the Total Care location at Union Square or bring him back to the UWS Vetco at 12 weeks when he’s “significantly bigger”, she specifically said he should be 5 lbs (!) When I told her that he’s a toy breed and is charting 5-5.5 lbs as an adult she didn’t seem to understand my point; in 2 weeks he might have gained a few oz at most!A complete waste of time, with no intake form sent (if they had, they could have called us to tell us he’s too small for their services and saved a trip!), but more disturbingly the vet didn’t seem to know what she was talking about. Even when I tried to explain where her reasoning was faulty she didn’t get it and then started saying irrelevant things about him potentially biting someone and being put down if he doesn’t have his rabies vaccine yet.I’m going to try the Union Square Total Care location in 2 weeks, but definitely calling in advance to avoid another situation like this.If you have small/toy breed, bring your puppy elsewhere.————————————————————An update:After replying to the email address below, I was told that my case would be escalated and Vetco would reach out to me. However, I was never contacted by anyone from Vetco to follow up on my case over these past 2 weeks.Today, I brought my Yorkie puppy (now 12 weeks old, 3.4 lbs) to the Vetco Total Care at Union Square for his vaccinations. When I told them about my experience with the UWS Vetco Clinic they had no idea why he wasn’t able to receive his vaccines from the clinic. However, they did inform me that the price for the 12-week puppy package at Total Care is much more expensive ($429) than the Clinic package price ($195). No one previously informed me of this: not the UWS Vetco Clinic who referred me to Total Care, not the website when I booked or confirmed with Union Square via email, and not even Total Care at Union Square when I called on Monday to explain my experience at the Clinic and that I was referred to Total Care for the puppy package.At Union Square, they also informed me that my puppy was now technically a little behind in his vaccine schedule since he was turned away from the UWS Clinic at 10 weeks! Ultimately, so I didn’t mess up his puppy vaccination timing and traumatize my dog with further subway trips, I paid for the vaccines he needed individually and used the “first visit coupon” so I wasn’t charged the hospital fee. This made taking him to Vetco to save money compared to taking him to his regular vet completely pointless. No savings at all, and I wasted time taking him to 2 visits far from my home.The Vetco Total Care advised me that I could definitely take him to a Vetco Clinic for his 16 week vaccines, but now I’m hesitant since no one seems to know what they are talking about.I’m still waiting to be contacted by Vetco.

They put on her visit summary that she’s a neutered male, (she’s a female and she’s intact), I asked for a receipt at the cashier and they told me it was going to be sent by email, that they don’t print receipt.On the email I received it was a visit summary with the price but no proof of payment. I was never able to get the receipt back. I called vetco, petco, and returned to the store to get it printed out, they said I needed to have an account with them to get my receipt. My insurance never reimbursed the vaccination without the receipt.I needed this vaccination to fly and get a health certificate. The certificate being wrong in the gender, I was never able to get my health certificate on time for the flight. When back to ask it corrected, the staff talks to me like I’m an idiot, the guy at the cashier and the two girls at the vet are looking at me saying « you gotta wait until 10am » and are completely ignoring me and are swiping on their phones.Wild. Don’t go there, it’s trouble guaranteed ! It’s surreal that a vet makes a mistake between make and female.
