Monster Aquarium Inc has built a reputation for its distinct features and commitment to the aquarium community in New York. While not every customer experience is perfect, the store has key strengths that make it a favorite among many local enthusiasts.
- Healthy Fish: One of the most important factors for any aquarium enthusiast is the health of the fish they purchase. According to a customer review, the fish from Monster Aquarium Inc are known for being healthy, which is a key indicator of good care and responsible sourcing. This is crucial for ensuring a vibrant and long-lasting tank ecosystem.
- Expert and Patient Staff: Owner John is highlighted in a review for providing "excellent service" and having a "lot of patience" with customer questions. This personalized, hands-on approach is invaluable, especially for newcomers to the hobby who have a "million questions" and need reliable advice.
- Variety of Fish Species: The store offers a good selection of tropical and exotic fish, catering to both common interests and specialized tastes. They are a good source for unique finds that may not be available at larger, generic pet stores.

For any inquiries, to check product availability, or to place an order, you can contact Monster Aquarium Inc at (347) 732-0373. The store is located at 131-08 40th Rd, Flushing, NY 11354. It's a great idea to call ahead if you are looking for a specific item or species to ensure it is in stock.
For New York's aquarists, Monster Aquarium Inc presents a compelling option for several reasons. While one customer review pointed out some issues with an online order, it's important to weigh that against the positive experiences and core strengths of the business. The instance of a wrong fish being sent is unfortunate, and the response to the customer's complaint could have been handled more effectively. This highlights the importance of clear communication, especially with online orders, and the need for businesses to address customer concerns with a focus on resolution.
However, the overwhelmingly positive feedback from in-store customers, like the one who praised owner John for his patience and the health of the fish, speaks to the quality of the in-person experience. The commitment to selling "healthy fish" is perhaps the most critical factor for any aquarium shop, as the well-being of the animals is paramount. The expertise and patience of the staff make the shop a valuable resource, especially for those new to the hobby who require extensive guidance. For local New Yorkers who prefer to visit a store, see the fish in person, and ask questions directly, Monster Aquarium Inc is an excellent choice. It offers the personalized service and high-quality livestock that are often missing from larger chain stores, making it a true hub for the local aquatic community.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1I ordered albino Chinese perch, 2 long nose gar, 1 red chili Oscar’s, 1 lemons and a retropennis. After I placed the order they called me a couple days later letting me know they where out of stock on the Chinese perch, I agreed on swapping it out for a red spot severum and 1 more lemon and 1 more chili Oscar. When I received the package I noticed that something was off. My retropennis bichir was not a retropennis it was a telgelsi bichir so they sent me the wrong bichir. I also noticed that my long nose gar where not long nose gar but they are Florida gar which is also the wrong gar. On top of all that my chili Oscar that where labeled as 2 inches where around 1.5 inches which is another mislabel. I called to get something figured out and clearly I’m upset because I just spent 380$ on fish that where not the right fish. When I let the lady know I’m not sure her name. She proceeded to tell me that I was wrong and those where the right fish and that if you scroll 3 photos over on there website where it’s label they show a picture of a couple different kinds of fish and one happened to be the fish they sent me. In my opinion. That is extremely shady and misleading. Very unfortunate as I have many tanks and have many friends with tanks that would have loved to shop at your store.
September 09 · Brackyn BowdenMy favorite place! John the owner excellent service. A lot patience from our a million questions! We go to a lot aquarium place and I like to shop here because those carewith the fish it is healthy fish.Highly recommended!
March 21 · M HFirst time visiting this aquarium and I got 12 green neon tetras and two Amano shrimps. They all look pretty healthy and happy in the tank. The owner was communicative about new inventory arrivals.
June 09 · Xiaomin XieEDIT: They replied to my original review with context so I’m changing it!I loved this location. I found it via recommendations on places to stop at while in Main St, and this one was heavily recommended, so me and my partner tried it out! The first thing I noticed is that it’s a very hole-in-the-wall gem kind of spot. This place is not only very big, but they have an unbelievable variety of fish! There’s probably about 3-4 rooms wall-to-wall with all kinds of exotic fishes, and you wouldn’t expect it to be that large from the outside! A lot of fish I never even thought I would see for sale in my area. Some are at really good prices too! Others not so much, but they’re rare fish, so I won’t judge the prices at all. They also sell a ton of fish supplies and food here, so if you buy one I’m sure their staff would be able to give you some good recommendations on what to get for your fish!My only downside to the place is that it’s in a really strange location. You have to walk alongside the side of the neighboring mall’s block, with tons of trash on the walk down. You also have to pass this very scary looking house, that I’d hope gets renovated soon to help the neighborhood out. It’s at the very end of the street, and I honestly had almost given up hope we would even find it until we made it to the end and found the entrance.I still adore their selections of fish, though. Frogs were at such cheap prices, and I even got to see axolotls for the first time! They were very cutely adjusting to their climates in little containers. With the amount of fish tanks in the store, it must require a lot of hard work to upkeep with staff on all of them. I think they do put in a lot of effort to keep the tanks healthy & clean, even when there may be the occasional straggler fish who looks a bit sickly. It happens.Overall, I found this store to be way better than any other fish store I’ve had in my area before. I’ll definitely be back if I’m in the area and I’d recommend others should too! This store definitely deserves the support, there isn’t a lot like them left!
August 01 · Amedeo IndelicatoWent to pick up 5 Geoserarma Vampire crabs. I should have just left since they were in 80% water with only a few pieces of wood to stand on and these crabs live in 80% LAND and 20% water for an ideal setup. Each Geosesarma Vampire Crab Species must be kept SEPARATE as they do not breed or get along between species. They also need hiding spots to minimize stress and fighting between each other. This place did exactly the OPPOSITE of this. No land for them. all species mixed. No hides. This is 100% the reason that 3/5 died on my 20 minute drive home and 1 more dead a day after. Granted i came back immediately and asked for a store credit which i was given so i can appreciate that. But in regards to this specific animal i would NOT recommend whatsoever. Little care is known about this species and little research is being done to do it properly.
