I don’t know where to begin. I took my senior cat there for an emergency and they were so incredible I decided to switch all my fur babies there. I took him back for a yearly and they did senior bloodwork just as a baseline and came back diagnosed him with the beginning of pancreatitis and diabetes. Which was surprising because he showed zero signs of either. However, this began months of treatments thousands of dollars and multiple trips back and forth each week. Which, with a diagnosis of pancreatitis, is warranted. The staff was Very nice and they did most of the communications between the doctor and I - I rarely got to speak with him directly. At some point, he wanted my senior cat to take pain meds- he prescribed Tramadol 50mg 1/2 tablets 3 times a day. The first day he was given two doses, almost 3 - but I noticed he wasn’t right. He couldn’t walk, he didn’t respond to commands or noises, and his eyes were dilated. He was going to the bathroom right where he stood. It was late- so we decided to contact a tele-med Vet ,not affiliated with this vet, to see if this was due to this Tramadol. Sure enough it was. The vet we spoke to told us that he was grossly overdosed on the Tramadol. It’s supposed to be 2mg per pound, our baby only weighs 7 pounds therefore he should’ve only received 14mg per day at the most and he was prescribed 75mg per day. We had given him two doses (50mg) before contacting the online vet. The online vet assured us he’d be okay eventually, but it had to work itself out of his system- (which that took a WEEK for him to be back to his normal self.). Anyway, the online vet gave us things to look for in the event he made a turn for the worse to take him to emergency. The next day I called animals first to inform them of this mistake- the reception called back and stated that the doctor said “ he prescribes the same dose for all his patients, some can handle it better then others”. This was my sign to leave this practice immediately. My baby could’ve died and the fact that they see no issue with this overdosing is concerning. The cost of care exceeds the quality of care from the doctor. I now have a new vet that can’t even get the records from animals first despite countless efforts. Where we are now is way more affordable and the quality of care is exceptional by the staff and doctors. - Taryn Kerper

Animals First + Veterinary Hospital & Urgent Care Introduce

As a pet owner in New Jersey, you know that your furry, feathered, or scaly family members deserve the very best care. Finding a reliable and compassionate veterinary partner is crucial, whether it's for a routine check-up, a sudden illness, or a more serious emergency. For those in Haddon Township and the surrounding areas like Cherry Hill, Animals First + Veterinary Hospital & Urgent Care stands out as a dedicated resource for comprehensive animal health services.

This facility is more than just a typical veterinary clinic. It's an animal hospital, an urgent care center, a veterinary pharmacy, and a wellness hub all rolled into one. The team at Animals First understands that pet health isn't a one-size-fits-all issue. They focus on providing a broad spectrum of services to support your pet through every stage of life, from their first exam as a puppy or kitten to specialized geriatric care.

The philosophy at Animals First + Veterinary Hospital & Urgent Care is centered on building a strong bond with both the pets and their human companions. They aim to make you feel like part of the family, not just another appointment. This commitment to a personalized approach is what sets them apart and helps to create a comfortable and trusting environment for everyone involved. When you step through their doors, you'll find a clean facility and a welcoming staff dedicated to making your visit as stress-free as possible.

Beyond routine visits, the hospital is equipped to handle a wide range of needs, including emergency situations and complex procedures. Their status as an urgent care center fills a vital gap between a regular vet appointment and a 24/7 emergency hospital. This means that for non-life-threatening but still pressing issues like minor injuries, sudden vomiting, or limping, you have a place to go for prompt, professional care without the potential wait times and higher costs often associated with a full-blown emergency room. They understand that when your pet is in distress, you need timely help, and they are structured to provide just that.

In addition to their medical expertise, the hospital also provides a valuable on-site veterinary pharmacy. This convenience allows you to fill your pet's prescriptions directly at the clinic, ensuring you can get the medication you need immediately following a diagnosis. This integration of services is a key benefit, streamlining the process of getting your pet on the road to recovery. They offer everything from general medicine to specialized prescriptions, making it easier for you to manage your pet's health without an extra trip. This kind of accessibility is a major factor for busy pet owners in New Jersey who want to ensure their pet's health needs are met efficiently.

The core of any great veterinary practice is its team, and the professionals at Animals First are dedicated to compassionate and knowledgeable care. The hospital's mission is to provide high-quality medicine and surgery while fostering a supportive and caring environment. Their team is trained to handle a variety of animal health issues, from common ailments to more complex conditions. They prioritize diagnostic work to get to the root of a problem quickly, often using advanced imaging and an in-house laboratory to get results in minutes. This proactive approach to diagnostics can make a huge difference in a pet's health outcome, allowing for a swift and effective treatment plan.

When it comes to your pet's well-being, every decision matters. Choosing a vet that offers a full range of services and truly partners with you in your pet's care is an important choice. The comprehensive care model at Animals First + Veterinary Hospital & Urgent Care ensures that whether you are dealing with a simple check-up or a complicated health issue, your pet has access to the care they need in one convenient location.

The combination of a professional, friendly staff, a clean and modern facility, and a broad range of services makes this a noteworthy option for pet owners throughout the region. From the moment you call to schedule an appointment to the time you leave, the team works to provide a positive and reassuring experience. They know that your pet is a beloved part of your family, and they treat them with the same love and respect you do.

Ultimately, a vet's true value lies in their ability to provide both excellent medical care and a sense of trust and reliability. Animals First + Veterinary Hospital & Urgent Care strives to be that resource for the South Jersey community, a place where you can feel confident that your pet's health is in good hands.

What is worth choosing

Animals First + Veterinary Hospital & Urgent Care is a top choice for New Jersey pet owners for several key reasons. The most significant benefit is the combination of a full-service animal hospital with the convenience of an urgent care center and a veterinary pharmacy. This integrated approach means you can address a wide range of your pet’s health needs in a single location, saving you time and stress. They are perfectly positioned to handle those "in-between" situations—when a problem is serious but not life-threatening enough to warrant a visit to a 24-hour ER. This can often lead to faster care and a more manageable cost.

The availability of an on-site pharmacy is a huge plus, ensuring that your pet's medication is ready to go as soon as the appointment is over. Furthermore, the commitment to compassionate, personalized care is evident in their approach. They strive to create a warm and welcoming environment for both pets and their owners, understanding the anxiety that can come with a veterinary visit. With a focus on modern diagnostics, comprehensive services, and a dedicated team, Animals First + Veterinary Hospital provides a high level of care that prioritizes your pet's well-being and your peace of mind.
