Cooper Square Veterinary Hospital Introduce
For pet owners in New York City, especially those in the East Village and surrounding neighborhoods, finding a veterinary hospital that combines professional expertise with a deep, personal commitment to animal care is a top priority. Cooper Square Veterinary Hospital, located at 211 E 5th St, New York, NY 10003, is a true "gem," as one customer puts it, that embodies this ethos. This facility is a well-established, independently-owned animal hospital, which is a significant distinction in a market often dominated by large corporations. It is a place where a single, long-standing doctor and his team are dedicated to providing compassionate, no-frills care that focuses on what is best for the animal, not on upselling unnecessary services. This approach fosters a level of trust and loyalty that is difficult to find elsewhere. The hospital's focus is on providing high-quality medicine and surgery for companion animals, with an emphasis on client education. From the moment you walk in, the atmosphere, while sometimes hectic, is filled with a genuine love for animals, often with the doctor's own dogs, Pickles and Lea, greeting patients in the lobby. This personal touch is a powerful testament to the hospital’s core values, making a visit feel more like a trip to a trusted family friend than a sterile medical office.
The reputation of Cooper Square Veterinary Hospital is built on a foundation of honest, caring, and straightforward service, as highlighted by numerous customer reviews. Clients consistently praise Dr. G, the owner and operator, as an "old school New Yorker" who is "honest, no frills and super caring." This no-nonsense approach is exactly what many New Yorkers appreciate, especially when it comes to the health of their pets. One new client was pleasantly surprised by the "good" prices, expecting to pay three times what the final bill was. This affordability, coupled with the doctor's willingness to be direct and "doesn't sugarcoat anything," makes for a transparent and trustworthy experience. The review also praises the staff, describing the front desk as an "amazing sweetheart" and the assistants as "so nice." This consistency in kindness and professionalism from the entire team is a major reason why pet owners "don't have second thoughts" about coming back. Another long-term client who has been entrusting their cats to Dr. G for years notes that despite the occasional hectic moments that are common at "ALL vets," they are "happy to entrust" their pets' wellbeing to him. The fact that the clinic is independently owned and operated by a doctor who has been at the location "for the longest time" is a huge plus, signaling a long-term commitment to the community and a focus on care over profit. These genuine endorsements from satisfied clients speak volumes about the quality of the services and the integrity of the practice.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1I wish I could give them 100 stars, I found a gem! I wasn’t planning on becoming a pet parent but I ended up with an unadoptable cat who is very feisty. She never let a vet examine her fully. Doctor G recommended calming medication and she was able to be seen! Their prices surprised me in a good way, I was expecting to spend around 800, but only spent a third of that. This doctor loves animals and doesn’t sugarcoat anything, that’s exactly what I wanted in a vet and I can’t believe it took me 11 years to find him. If you’re having second thoughts, don’t! This is New York, you won’t find another vet like this anywhere else. The front desk is amazing, such a sweetheart and the assistants are so nice. The dogs at the office are adorable!
September 13 · DianaDoctor G is an old school New Yorker who can be on the eccentric side but he is honest, no frills and super caring for all my cats i have brought in for the last 3 years or so. His own two dogs in the lobby (pickles & Lea) are adorable. i know for some, that could be alarming but for me, it's an endless entertainment while i wait. There are days when it is calm but there are other days when it's hectic and it feel like i'm at an ER but that is what happens at ALL vets. i am just happy to entrust my cats' wellbeing with Dr G. Another plus factor: this is a vet office not owned by a corporation but instead owned and operated by a doctor who has been at this location for the longest time. Take your furry friends to a doctor who cares and not trying to sell you that stuff that makes them the most money.
February 26 · Qumi LeeDr. Gagliardi cares about his patients and is a no nonsense kind of guy. He is to the point and will give you a straight answer. He also makes excellent pizza recommendations, given his Italian background. Would recommend, 5/5.*update: we are still very happy with Dr. Gagliardi. 7/20/22*newer update: we are still extremely happy and confident in Dr. Gagliardi's pet care capabilities. 11/10. 2/3/2025
February 05 · Kevin WangIf you are seeking an NYC veterinary, Cooper Square Veterinary Hospital is the place to go. It is a hidden gem in a city where it is tough to find a vet who will provide for your pet like it’s their own without charging you an arm and a leg. It seems most practices are corporate-owned nowadays, but thankfully, Cooper Square Vet and Dr. Gagliardi are an exception.Dr. Gagliardi is fantastic. He is knowledgeable, diligent, and above all, places utmost importance on taking the best possible care of the animals that come to him. I could not say enough positive things about my experience with them.
October 24 · Desmond Holzman-HansenVery disappointing care from Gagliardi. He was too busy dressing-down his associates, instead of diagnosing and caring for our loving cat Genie. We went to him several times over 5 months. He supposedly checked her thoroughly, except in the mouth where the cancer was present.Don't human doctors check the mouth? What a joke!If he had bothered to do this early on, we would have fed her a liquid diet, even brushed her regularly, and cooed to her everyday. We would enjoyed her last days tremendously, and given her a much more loving and less stressed send-off.Terrible VET!!! He broke our family's heart.
